The warm, sheltered gap beneath a solar array is ideal for pigeons and gulls. Once they move in you get nesting debris, acidic droppings across the panels and roof, blocked gutters and downpipes, and cabling that birds peck and pull loose. Droppings on the glass also shade cells and cut generation.

Beyond the mess, the nesting material and fouling can create a fire and hygiene risk on the roof, and clearing it repeatedly costs more than proofing the array once. Some businesses only discover the problem when gutters overflow or output drops, by which point the fouling is well established. Gulls in particular are persistent once a roof suits them.
