Taking Over an Orphaned Solar System When the Installer Has Gone

A solar system becomes orphaned when the installer or maintenance company that looked after it stops trading, is bought out, or simply stops answering the phone. The panels keep generating, but there is nobody responsible for servicing them, no one to call when a fault appears, and often no access to the monitoring or paperwork. It is a surprisingly common position for commercial owners.

The risk is that small problems go unnoticed and untreated. An inverter fault or a dead string can sit for months, quietly losing generation, because no one is watching the system or booked to inspect it.

A provider adopting an orphaned system will usually start with a full inspection to establish its condition, since they did not install it and cannot assume anything. They check the panels, inverters, wiring, mounting and safety, review whatever records exist, and set up monitoring so faults are seen again. From there they can put the system onto a maintenance arrangement that fits its age and state.
