Solar Performance Monitoring Service

Performance monitoring watches a commercial solar system’s output day to day, so a drop from a failed string, dirty panels or an inverter fault is caught in days rather than at the next bill. PPA Funding does not run the monitoring itself; we introduce you to a vetted provider for a no-obligation quote.

Performance monitoring watches a commercial solar system’s output day to day, so a drop from a failed string, dirty panels or an inverter fault is caught in days rather than at the next bill. Why underperformance goes unnoticed

A solar system rarely stops dead. Far more often it quietly slips: one string trips, an optimiser fails, soiling builds, or an inverter throttles back. The panels still turn sunlight into power, just less of it, and without monitoring the shortfall only shows months later as a higher electricity bill.

By then you have lost generation you cannot get back. The earlier a shortfall is caught, the less it costs you. Monitoring closes that gap by comparing what the system produces against what it should, and flagging the difference early.

How monitoring works

Most modern inverters and meters report generation data to a portal or app. A provider sets up monitoring against sensible expected figures, watches for drops, missing strings or error codes, and alerts you when something looks wrong. On larger systems this can go down to individual panels where optimisers or microinverters are fitted.

Good monitoring is about useful alerts, not a wall of numbers. A provider tunes it so you hear about real drops, not every passing cloud, and can compare one site against another where you run several. Alerts can go to you, the provider, or both.

From alert to fix

Monitoring is most useful when someone acts on it. A provider can review the alerts, tell you whether it is a clean, a reset or a genuine fault, and arrange the right visit. That turns a stream of data into a short list of things actually worth doing.

To set it up, tell us what inverter and metering you already have and we pass your enquiry to a provider. They confirm whether your kit reports the data needed and quote for ongoing monitoring.

Frequently asked questions

Can you monitor a system I already have?

In most cases yes. If your inverter or meter already reports data, a provider can usually set up monitoring against it. Where hardware is older, they will advise what, if anything, needs adding to get reliable figures.

Does PPA Funding provide the monitoring?

No. We are an introducer. We connect you with a vetted monitoring provider and pass on your enquiry; they set up and run the monitoring and deal with you directly.
