What repowering and upgrading means
Repowering is replacing key parts of an existing system with newer, better-performing equipment, rather than building from scratch. Often that means swapping tired inverters for modern ones, replacing failed or underperforming panels, or adding capacity where the roof or ground has room. Adding battery storage to an older solar-only system is another common upgrade.
The point is usually more useful output from the same site: higher generation, better monitoring, more of the power used on site rather than exported, and equipment that is supported again rather than out of warranty.
When an upgrade is worth considering
Inverters tend to wear out before panels, so a system that keeps tripping or has an inverter past support is a strong candidate. Rising energy prices also change the sums, because storing and using more of your own generation can be worth more than it was when the system went in. A provider can model what a repower would add before you commit.
Battery, in particular, suits sites that generate more in the day than they use, or that want backup when the grid goes down.

Is repowering better than a whole new system?
