When you need panels off and back on
Roofs outlast some faults but not others. If the covering under an array starts to leak, or the roof needs stripping and replacing before the panels reach the end of their life, the array has to be lifted out of the way and refitted afterwards. The same applies when a building is being re-roofed, extended or reclad.
Doing this well is a coordination job. The solar has to come down without damaging modules or cabling, the roofer needs a clear working area, and the array has to go back exactly as it was so it still performs and stays weathertight.
How a careful removal and refit works
A provider will usually isolate and disconnect the system, label and remove the panels and mounting rails, and store them safely while the roof work goes on. Once the roof is finished, the mounting system and modules go back on, the array is reconnected, and the system is tested to confirm it generates as before. Handling the DC side needs a competent installer, not a general roofer.

Can the roofer just take the panels off?
It is safer not to. The DC side of a solar system stays live in daylight and needs a competent installer to isolate, disconnect and refit it. We introduce providers who handle the solar so your roofer can get on with the roof.
Will the system work the same after refitting?
That is the aim. A provider refits the array to its original layout, reconnects it and tests that it generates as before. Tell us the system details when you enquire and they can quote for the full removal and refit, at no obligation.
